Avren village is situated some 30 km to the South of Varna. The village is well developed and has all the necessary amenities including a 24 hour health care service, several shops including a British run one, a bank branch, a post office and a fire department, as well as a school and a kindergarten where the English kids are studying. About 80% of the population of the village is English. Many of the foreign families have made Avren their permanent residence. Situated on the Avren plateau, the highest plateau on the Balkan Peninsula, the village offers breathtaking views to the surrounding valley and the lakes. On a clear sunny day the view is simply stunning!
The municipality of Avren abounds in many a historical monument, the most famous of which is the Petrich – Kale Fortress, dating back to the Middle Ages. There are also many churches built by talented master builders and decorated by prominent icon – painters through the 17th – 19th century period. The Kamchia Resort Complex is the home of two biosphere reservations. The Kamchia Reservation is under the auspices of UNESCO and encompasses a protected area of 842 hectares, and the northern bank of the Kamchia River is the Longoza reservation covering an area of 14 hectares. The natural beauty and solitude of the mouth of the Kamchia River and the Pasha Dere firth are especially attractive for tourists seeking a place of serenity away from the modern pace of life.
